Healthy Families of Southwest Virginia
Healthy Families for Southwest
Virginia provides information and supportive services to
first-time parents in Wise, Lee, and Scott Counties and the
City of Norton.
All
first-time parents qualify for a free Welcome Baby Package

of baby products and a welcome gift.
Healthy Families is a voluntary program
that provides a family with a home visitor that is available
to answer questions, calm fears, provide development and
health information, support, and connect parents with
resouces located in their community. Home visitors
assist parents in discovering ways to help their child be
the very best that he or she can be.

What can home visitors help new parents with?
Promoting positive parent-child relationships.
Promoting healthy childhood growth and development using
the most current brain development information.
Increasing school readiness by providing books to
children and show parents things they can do with their child to help child
development, even the impact of play.
Parent "Get-togethers" that are not only educational
but also include fun activities, a chance to meet other
first-time parents, on-site childcare available if needed during the
meeting.
Transportation provided or arranged to doctor visits,
parent "get-togethers," other important appointments.
Parents can access the program pre-natal or post-natal
through their OB/GYN's office, in the hospital at the time of their baby's
birth or through self referral. Look for the self referral links
located above on the right side of this webpage.
