MEOC Family Support Services

Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc. is now recruiting trained workers in providing personal care services to the elderly in Lee, Wise and Scott Counties and in the City of Norton.

We are seeking certified nurse aides (PCAs) or certified nursing assistants (CNAs) who are willing to work in the homes of older persons. If you have previously applied and are still interested, please call us to update your application.  Wages for these positions begin at $7.50 per hour.

Mountain Laurel Cancer Support and Resource Center  

The Mountain Laurel Cancer Support and Revenue Center is in need of volunteers to assist in managing the Center's activities.  Volunteer needs include assisting cancer patients and their families locate cancer related health information, gathering materials for the organization's quarterly meetings, taking referrals for assistance, coordinating requests for assistance with MEOC programs and other community resources, assisting in planning and staging community fundraisers and other responsibilities as necessary.  If you enjoy helping others and are interested in volunteering in a pleasant and fulfilling environment, please contact Judy Miller at 523-4202.

MEOC Foster Grandparent Program

The MEOC Foster Grandparent program offers opportunities for seniors to spend quality time with young people - from singing with preschoolers, reading to schoolchildren, to mentoring at-risk youth. Seniors with a love for children and willing to devote 20 hrs per week are encouraged to call. The program currently has partnerships with dozens of educational programs in Wise, Lee, and Scott Counties and the City of Norton.

Foster Grandparents must be at least 60 years of age with a limited income. Foster Grandparents will receive a $212.00 tax-free monthly stipend for their service, which does not affect Medicare/Medicaid or Social Security or benefits such as food stamps, rental assistance or federal fuel assistance. They receive paid vacation/sick time, holiday pay and transportation reimbursement, an annual physical exam and supplemental insurance while they are at their sites. MEOC Transit

PUBLIC TRANSIT DISPATCHER

HOURS 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM M-F
Full-Time Hourly $8.00/Hr.

Duties include receiving and appropriately processing service requests from seniors, persons with physical and cognitive disabilities, professional staff, civic organizations and others via phone and in person.  Successful applicant will exhibit skill in human relations and verbal communications.  Position requires use of specialized trip scheduling and route coordination software.  Must demonstrate ability to respond appropriately to customers’ concerns.  Will perform associated clerical duties, and other duties as assigned.  Pre-employment physical examination, pre-employment drug screen and on-going drug and alcohol testing, plus criminal background check required.  Applications are available at MEOC or send resume to Mike Henson, Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc., P.O. Public Transit Bus Drivers

If you have a good driving record and enjoy working with the public, Mountain Empire Transit wants you! No experience necessary... We provide all required training at no cost.  Mountain Empire Transit  has temporary, seasonal and full-time positions available.  We offer flexible hours, perfect for retirees and substitute school bus drivers.  Compliance with drug and alcohol testing program and DOT physical required. MEOC Title V Senior Community Service Employment Program

The MEOC Title V Senior Community Service Employment Program provides assistance to low-income older workers who are 55 or older and looking for a job.   MEOC currently has several older worker slots to fill in Lee, Wise and Scott Counties and Norton City.  

The following training site experience opportunities are now available in some locations:  Library Aide; Child Care Center Worker; School Cafeteria Worker; Crisis Center Assistant; Child Advocacy Center Reception & Data Entry; MEOC Transit Driver or Dispatch Aide; and Nutrition Center Assistant.
