50th Anniversary Event is June 8

Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc. proudly announces its 50th-anniversary celebration, commemorating five decades of dedicated service to the residents of Wise, Lee and Scott counties and the City of Norton.

The community event will be on Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the David J. Prior Convocation Center at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. MEOC invites the public to attend and celebrate this significant milestone.

“We are incredibly proud to have served our community for 50 years, and we look forward to continuing our mission of providing vital services and support to those in need,” said MEOC Executive Director Michael Wampler. “This celebration is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, community supporters and everyone who has helped us positively impact the lives of so many individuals and families.”

Founded in 1974, MEOC is the area’s designated agency on aging and public transit provider, offering essential services to individuals of all ages. MEOC also operates the Mountain Empire Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, Southwest Virginia Children’s Advocacy Center and the Mountain Laurel Cancer Support & Resource Center.

Attendees of the June 8 anniversary event can expect a day filled with fun and reflection on MEOC’s journey over the past 50 years.

Several esteemed guest speakers, including MEOC’s Executive Director Emeritus Marilyn Pace Maxwell, Board of Directors Chairman AJ Hatmaker and Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services Director Kathy Hayfield will share their insights and reflections on MEOC’s rich history.

Attendees will also enjoy a catered buffet meal and live musical entertainment by local gospel group 4-HIM and Denise Glass, a Patsy Cline tribute performer.

Representatives from various local agencies and businesses will also attend to share information about available community resources.
