Championing health and independence during Older Americans Month

Older Americans Month is recognized each May as a time to celebrate the contributions of older adults and reaffirm our commitment to supporting healthy aging in our communities.

This year’s theme, “Champion Your Health,” focuses on the everyday choices and support systems that help people maintain their health, independence and quality of life as they age.

At Mountain Empire Older Citizens, those supports take many forms. Congregate meal sites provide both nutrition and social connection. Fall prevention programs help older adults build strength, confidence and mobility. Transportation services help individuals stay connected to medical care, groceries and community activities.

Healthy aging looks different for everyone, but staying active, maintaining social connections and having access to needed services can make a meaningful difference over time.

Throughout the region, older adults continue to play important roles in their families, churches, workplaces and communities. Older Americans Month is an opportunity to recognize those contributions while also highlighting the importance of programs and partnerships that support well-being at every stage of life.

MEOC remains committed to helping older adults throughout the region live with dignity, independence and connection to the communities they call home.
